The man we call "Biscuit" stepped onto campus in Lawrence, Kansas never having played a game of rugby in his life. After playing varsity tennis for four years in high school in California, he decided to join KJRFC with a friend to give rugby a shot. He leaves KU his senior year being both the top try scorer(7) and overall points scorer(86) for not only KU, but the entire Heart of America Conference this competitive year. His level of play has elevated every season with us and his vision on the field, tactical awareness, and goal kicking has improved exponentially. We asked Trent some questions and here are his responses.
What are your plans after graduation?
"I'm taking a year off of school working as a Registered Behavioral Technician(RBT) before applying to grad school next spring."
What did you like about the rugby club at KU?
I like how connected the club is. Getting together on Thursday's after practice and just hanging out with one another, eating pizza and getting a drink is a great way to build a strong trust in your teammates. Also, how dedicated we are at getting better. Getting a strength coach shows how dedicated of a club we are and shows that we are dedicated to greatness. Another that shows how dedicated of a club we are is having players from other countries come to play for us also shows that we can be more than just a social club."
What was your fondest memory with the team?
"The trip up to The University of Minnesota. First big away game and we took a charter bus."
What would you tell incoming players?
"I would tell incoming players that I would take the time to hang out with the team any chances they get including socials, staying after the games, and going early to practice. The team really is more like a family and the best way to feel like a part of that family is to just be around everyone.
Are you planning on playing rugby after graduation?
"Yes, I will be playing club side for KJRFC."
Good on 'ya Biscuit and we look forward to having you around in the year to come!
