We wish Tanner Shimek the best as he graduates this weekend. He has been a part of the executive committee, Collegiate Heart of America team, been on tours with the club to New Zealand and Scotland/Wales, and has been a great teammate on and off of the field. His technical play in the set piece for the Jayhawks will be greatly missed. He's been very versatile in the line out as both a jumper and a lifter and played a huge role at scrum time in "the engine room"(second row) as a proud tight five member. Tanner was one of the fittest guys on the team and covered a lot of ground. On the pitch he was more like an extra loose forward in both attack, and more importantly, on defense. The coaching staff and his teammates could always count on him. We asked Tanner some questions about his time with KJRFC and here is what he had to say.
What are your plans after graduation?
"I'm planning on going to Law School."
What did you like most about the rugby club?
I liked getting to know all the players, coaches, and members of the rugby club and being a part of this rugby family."
What was your fondest memory with KJRFC?
"It had to be scoring the game winning try against Missouri."
What would you tell incoming players about the rugby club?
"I would tell them to not be afraid to get more involved in the club because the more you give the more fun you'll get out of it."
Do you have plans of playing rugby after graduation?
"That has yet to be decided."
Tanner, we know you will do great things with what comes after graduation and KJRFC wishes you the best. Rock Chalk!
